Golden Chocolate Vault for artist Alec Monopoly.

This was a commission like no other. Build a chocolate bank vault/safe that can be completely filled with chocolate Bit Coin and dollar signed MnM’s amongst other delicious delights, only to be smashed to pieces within minuets of arriving safely at its destination.

The Eden Gallery, New Bond Street, London was the destination for this unusual, edible installation. The Exhibition was part of the Frieze London Art trail October 2023.

The Artist Alec Monopoly was the inspiration for the chocolate sculpture, his work themed around the traditional capitalist board game of the same name, was a interesting collection to surround the chocolate vault and his smashing of the chocolate sculpture to reveal the chocolate treats inside.

The chocolate vault took a month to design and make and used over 35kg of chocolate.

Chocolatician, Jen Lindsey-Clark, designed the sculpture to have a hidden vault inside the outer vault so it would not collapse with the weight of goodies inside. It needed to have a thin outer layer so it could be easily smashed but a secret secure space inside so it didn’t crack and fall apart on the way up. Top chocolate engineering was key to this job !
